We are Going to Have a Baby
Congratulations, here are some ideas to help you collect your thoughts. Having a baby is the most wonderful experience a woman can have. After delivering your baby, another challenge begins.
What about all of the stuff that you are going to need. Where will you get it? What do you even need? There will be the need for all sizes of diapers and clothes. Sleepers, hats, socks (you get the idea).
You have to consider what type of baby beds and cribs you might need. Consideration should always be given to the safety factors when deciding what bedding to purchase.
Make sure the baby’s bed is not too soft. In the past, sudden infant death syndrome or SIDS was attributed to a very soft baby bed. The problem is that the child’s nose and mouth gets covered and the air they exhale is the air they breathe. This is dangerous for him since they would breath carbon dioxide rather than oxygen and the effects could lead to drowsiness, coma or even death.
You will need shampoo, lotion, baby towels and washcloths, wet wipes and the list goes on. You should consider simple toys that are age appropriate for the sake of safety. There are many stimulating toys on the market that will aid in your baby’s development.
Feeding bottles, diaper changes and immunization records are just a few of the things the new mom has to learn about quickly. Always try to learn from friends and relatives who have been “through it”. If you need extra help, there are many excellent books available (your friends may even suggest a few). There are also information resources available on the internet (if it sounds wrong to you, don’t accept the advice.) Your instinct will take over in many situations.
One great way to get some of the stuff you need is to hold a baby shower. Baby showers are usually held four to six weeks before the due date. The easiest way to get started on having a baby shower is to develop a theme for the event. Themes can be based on colors or types of products you might need, whatever you want. Things to plan are who is on the guest list, what games you wish to play, plan what the menu will be, create baby shower party favors, and last but not the least, set the time and location.
While you are doing all of this planning, don’t forget to choose the baby’s name. Choosing a baby name for your child is almost like choosing his identity, some even say that the child’s personality is influenced by his or her name. Research about the meaning of the baby name, consider the initials of the baby name. Make sure they don’t stand for anything that might be embarassing to the child. Avoid being too creative on thinking of a baby name. This can backfire, avoid spellings that are too unique. It will be hard for the kid to keep on spelling his or her name to people who only know the common spelling of such a name.
Don’t let anything worry you too much. Everything will seem to fall into place as you go along. Enjoy your children when they are young. The next thing you know you will be looking up how to deal with a teenager!
